mulch rate
« on: April 29, 2012, 12:33:31 AM »
I have a agigator 425 gal machine and was wondering what people here would reccomend for bales of wood? I usually use paper. I am guessing 3 or 4 bales of eco fibre wood mulch per tank? How many sq ft can I spray per tank? I live in north montana and we have random thuderstorms and hot summers with cold winters.
 Thanks

Welcome to the forum, Ironman.   I think you are pretty correct in saying 3 or 4 bales.  I belive 200 pounds is the maximum recommended.

Montana is a beautiful state, a big one too.

Awesome. Thanks. The gov't contract calls for 4 lbs. of Kentucky Blue Grass per 1000 sq ft when broadcast. We plan on putting down half again as much or 6 lbs. We generally put down half the seed with a spreader and then pack it with a roller and broadcast the other half. We worry about severe thunderstorms washing our seed away. We will also be spreading the fertilizer with a spreader to save the metal tank from corrosion.  We are also required to plant a field grass mix at 31 lbs per acre. We are going to go half again as much and are considering spreading and packing half the seed as well but the area is MUCH larger than the Kentucky Blue Grass areas. I am not new to hydroseeding but we haven't had BIG gov contracts and just want to see what others are doing.
 Thanks guys.

Ironman,

Im confused on your equipment but if you have a jet agitated unit then you most likely have some serious problems using straight wood mulch. I have yet to see a jet unit mix a good slurry using straight wood and you may want to consider adding some paper to make a 50/50, 60/40, or 70/30 blend for your project.

From the sound of it you may have a Turfmaker but not completely sure...

Erik, he has a Kincaid.  It is very similar to the Turfmaker since Kincaid made Turfmaker for them for a while.   It is a paddle machine with a Bowie pump.

Correct it is a mechanical paddle machine. We wanted to be able to do wood mulch when we bought it and heard we would be limited with jets only.
