2 week old hydroseeded lawn - thoughts?
« on: Fri July 02, 2021, 01:38:28 PM »
Hey all! hydroseed applied on 6/24. Lawn is currently coming in like attached. We're looking at some of it being about 3" high should I wait another few weeks to give it a first mow or go for it now to promote thickening up? I reached out to the company that did it asking about the seed type (new construction lawn subcontracted, gave us no information) and their recommendations but I haven't heard back.

Thanks, Brennan  ;D

I would suggest waiting another week to 10 days before mowing and when you mow set the mower high.

Thanks! Should we consider overseeding the bald spots now or wait a little longer?

I would suggest giving it another week.  Often the areas that retain moisture come up the fastest and the rest comes in a little slower.  Sometimes the fast areas are along a house where it gets shade, under trees or where there is a bit of a dip in the soil.

Update - last photos were taken on 7/2. These were taken on 7/6 after a rainy week.

Looks like everything is coming in nicely. I'm thinking a first mow Sunday if the weather allows. Cut high. Then applying a high nitrogen fert to promote vegetation growth.

Thinking either https://yardmastery.com/collections/fertilizers-granular/products/24-0-6-flagship-with-3-iron-and-bio-nite%E2%84%A2# or

As an aside would something like this be okay to kill 2 birds with the insect control + fert?

Thanks!

My feelings are any of those should be fine.  I don't think the insect control would cause any problems.   I would recommend applying it at just a little less of a spreader setting than they recommend.   For instance if it says to set your spreader for 5 set it for 4 or 4 1/2 max.
