Can you do partial loads in 300 gal VSI Hydroseeder?
« on: Fri March 10, 2023, 05:59:11 PM »
Picked up a 300 gallon hydroseeder secondhand. Love the setup, works like a charm, and covers about 3,300 sqft per load consistently. The issue I've seen is getting those 3,500-5,000 lawns done without wasting most of a second tank. A lot of the time I can put jobs back to back and use the remainder of the second tank on the next job, but sometimes I end up having to just lay it on extra thick to use the entire load if I only have one job that day. I'm wondering if I can do a partial load to bridge the gap. Either doing a half load after a full load, or doing two 3/4 loads. I imagine it'll be fine as long as the water level is above the recirculating pipe, but have not been brave enough to try it yet, as I don't want to mess anything up. Any advice would be appreciated!

I have never run a VSI and never even looked at one that close, but I have done over 1000 jobs with a jet agitated hydroseeder and I am fairly sure you can mix partial loads in a VSI.  I would try to make sure your water level is above the jets and it would be faster if you break up the mulch a little more than you would for a full load.  VSI machines were pretty decent units and I don't you will have any problems, but it may need to mix just a bit longer.
