Pricing out full lawn tear outs before seeding.
« on: Wed January 04, 2023, 07:51:35 AM »
Hi guys , looking to get somewhat of the average pricing you all charge on doing a full lawn tear out/removal of existing grass/weeds and or soil  before hydroseeding.

Most of my jobs last year customers wanted their existing lawns completely removed ,new soil brought in and then hydroseeded. And im already getting booked up this upcoming spring/summer for the same.   Just wanted to see if im underpricing or overpricing myself as ive been told im actually doing my tearouts  too cheap . im comfortable with the rate regardless just wanted to see what you all think and what you charge on just doing a tear out by the sq.ft.  . thank you.

I can't give you any firsthand info since I only do hydroseeding and don't do any prep work but from what I see about 15 cents a square foot should be about average.  That may depend a little on where you are and what exactly is required.

It varies so much by location. If you are comfortable with your price now and you are actually making a profit go with it. Don't worry about the gossip. We were accused many times of being to cheap with our seed prices but we were doing fine so we just brushed it off. It did make us look to make sure we were actually making the profit we needed

I am just introducing soil preparation into my business model. I've dealt with a lot of contractors over the years, I plan to charge my customers based on equipment and hourly rate for this part. I'm treating it as if someone was coming to dig a foundation; you have a float charge for the excavator then hourly rate for the operator. I have a bobcat with a scarifier, therefore, there will be a float charge plus my hourly rate to rip up the lawn. Hydroseed after is charge as per normal, per square foot. I hope this maybe gives you a different idea. Cheers!
