Agitator speeds for optimum mixing
« on: Thu June 14, 2018, 05:39:41 AM »
Hi all,
I am interested in people’s thoughts on agitator speed. We have a T120 which we use wood mulch in but want to use recycled paper sheet. We use paper sheet in our machines that have hogger impellers with good success. The Finn agitator won’t break up the paper at its factory set speed. Sharpening the blades don’t work and I have been reluctant to change blade shape just in case we unbalance the shaft. Any info much appreciated

Alf,
I've never heard of Hogger Impellers, but am interested in what these are.
Not sure what the cost is for Peat Moss at your location, but you may be able to use it vs paper mulch with similar or better results at a lower material COST.

Impeller has nothing to do with mixing. How are you mixing the paper sheet in the machine with hogger impeller?

What do you mean the agitator won't break up paper at factory set speed?  The speed is adjustable and you should throttle up the engine and put the agitator in full reverse.  If you can't break up a bale of mulch with the agitator in full reverse and the throttle of the engine at a higher RPM, then you need service.  Do you have a dealer you can bring the machine to for assistance?
